WHY BREAKING FREE BIKES
I am Dave and I love bikes. I love bikes so much that I believe life 100 times better when you ride bikes! I believe everyone should ride everyday! Breaking Free Bikes is my antidote to the typical bike shop experience. I am not here because I want to sell you a high end bike nor do I aspire to look down on anyone for not having a high end bike. I believe the best bike is one which gets ridden and loved frequently regardless of the name on the frame or price tag. This is NOT an elitist bike shop. I am here because I want you, yes you, to ride your bike and love it. I strive to take my 20 years of bicycle industry experience and use it to spread of the love of bikes to anyone on any skill, access, or income level. Did I mention I love bikes?
THE SHOP
Breaking Free Bikes tries to be as transparent as we are passionate. Whether it be minor repairs and full tune ups I want to service your bike on YOUR schedule. This is why we offer expedited repairs/tune ups, pick up/delivery and house calls. We DO NOT want to sell you services you do not need. We will not sell you on a tune up and make you wait a week for your bike if it only needs a few minor adjustments. You cannot be riding your bike if its sitting in my shop and that is a problem!
MORE ABOUT ME
I have been riding bike as long as I can remember. I was obsessive BMX rider for 15 years. During this time I used the name Breaking Free BMX to market my bike videos. Starting in 2007 I produced 7 major video projects including two full length DVDs. Throughout my tenure in BMX I was featured in RideBMX magazine, Dig BMX magazine, and several online news sites for photography. Before moving to Rochester in 2013 I ran Planet Bike in East Brunswick NJ for six years. In 2016 I started Breaking Free Skatepark. At 22,000 sqft it is the largest all wheel friendly indoor skatepark in north east of America. Breaking Free Bikes is run out of this facility.
Now in my mid 30s I do not ride as much BMX, but do get plenty of miles in on my MTB, city, and road bikes. Occasionally I will sign up for MTB race but mostly keep it casual. Keep your eyes peeled for my “Friday Night Lights” ride or the “Independence day 100” which I host.
Go out and ride!
